James L. Carr
Jr.
is running for U.S. Senate because 2020 changed everything by revealing the catastrophic effect that a lack of vision for our country can have. This lack of vision led to distrust, civil unrest, and close to 600,000 unnecessary COVID-19 deaths.
“America deserves leadership with vision, integrity, and the courage to unite us in our greatest challenges. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient future for all Americans.”
Biography
A Life Dedicated to Service, Leadership, and North Carolina
A Commitment To Service
James’ Parents
James’ commitment to service came from his adopted father, James Sr., who served in the segregated Army Air Corps, and his adopted mother, Virginia Carr, who grew up during the Great Depression and served as a member of the Women’s Army Corps during the Second World War. Their dedication to country and service shaped James’ values from an early age.
Humble Beginnings
Working-Class Roots
Coming from a working-class family in Lexington, NC, James held jobs in a variety of industries including textile, dairy, department store, and fast food before entering the military. These early experiences taught him the value of hard work and the struggles facing everyday North Carolinians.
Military Service
James in Air Force Basic Training
At the time of his service, the United States was embroiled in the Cold War. Having served in the military for 4 years, James is a proven fighter. His service included a deployment to England where he stood on the frontlines in the fight against nuclear proliferation.
Education & Family
James & Helen
Following his service to our country, James used the G.I. bill to pay his way through college at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Upon his graduation, he became the first member of his family to graduate college and began working as an accountant. He now works as an I.T. consultant and resides in Harrisburg, NC with his wife Helen. James and Helen have been married for over 26 years.
Leadership Experience
With over 20 years of combined military and corporate experience
James brings proven leadership skills from both military service and the corporate world. His diverse experience has prepared him to tackle the complex challenges facing North Carolina, with a deep understanding of accountability, vision, and effective leadership.
- The leader must have a vision that clearly states the goals, the means of achieving those goals, and how those goals fit into the overall mission.
- They are then held accountable as to whether the objective is met while having to work with people from different backgrounds, genders, and beliefs.
- Therefore, a leader cannot attack the patriotism, character, morality, faith, intelligence, integrity, body, and persons we love — and be effective. Only in politics is it possible to live in a world and believe otherwise.
- A U.S. Senator must understand the overall vision and ensure that the goals behind the vision are being met.
- If these goals are not being met, they should develop solutions, not excuses, to address them.
A Vision for North Carolina’s Future
If blessed with the opportunity to serve as the next Senator for the people of the great state of North Carolina, James will invest in our people to guarantee our highest rates of return. These investments will focus on policies that create jobs for hard working Americans — and will include essentials like rural broadband, education, and Medicare for all. James and his policies will continue the fight for our shared vision of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, to ensure that a year like 2020 never happens again. As a father to the three JACS, James is committed to policies that protect future generations, including affordable education and family healthcare.
